For unto Us a Child is Born…

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Every time I think of Christmas, this verse comes to mind. For me, that infant born then has become:
Wonderful: The truly wonderful nature of Jesus is something we indeed see as He grew. He began His work, and people were always amazed and awaited His next move. (Luke 5:9, 8:40) For me personally, He became wonderful, as over the years I discover His beautiful aspects. How He lived with such love for His fellow man and such patience, even to be led to the cross. He compels me to become more and more like Him every day.
Counsellor: Jesus, as we see Him in the Gospels, was a counsellor for His disciples and for those around Him. (Luke 10:40-41, Matthew 13:10-12) His advice continually follows me in my life. In every situation I experience, He is there to give His guidance and counsel.
Everlasting Father: Jesus held and holds the future of humanity in His hands. He came to earth and sacrificed for it to save everyone who believes in Him. I could not have greater certainty than this for my future. (John 3:16, Matthew 16:27, Luke 22:69, Revelation 1:8) My future with Him is bright, because He holds it in His hands and brings hope into my life.
Prince of Peace: Christ came to bring Peace between man and God. He was born and took human form to reach the ultimate sacrifice, to give His life for us. It was the greatest gift of peace. When we receive Him into our hearts, it fills with peace. (John 14:27, 16:33)
His peace always accompanies me. My life was troubled and my heart was in sorrow, but since I accepted Jesus as my Savior, I have seen this Peace flood over me. I can say with certainty that I feel Peace even in times of difficulty, because I know who stands with me. This prophecy was given many years before the birth of Jesus, and it always reminds me that God wanted to give hope to people that the Savior would come soon!
This birth symbolizes hope, unconditional love, and a perfect plan for restoring our relationship with God. I have experienced the birth of Christ. He was “born” in my heart the day I accepted Him as my Savior and Lord! Like the shepherds and wise men who sought to find that infant, God had arranged to guide them with the star and the angels. Thus, He also provided for me. He placed the star where it needed to be and brought angels around me to guide me. I invite you to seek this infant this Christmas too. Christ was born for you and loves you with the most selfless love.
