The Blessing of God

Editor Dimitra Mina
What would you say if someone promised you that by doing just one thing, you could be able to:
1. know exactly what to decide every time you face a dilemma,
2. know which path to follow when you have many paths ahead,
3. distinguish truth from lies,
4. always discern between the real and the fake?
And as a bonus to the above, you would have the assurance that you will never lack any material or spiritual good, your children will be heirs to the greatest kingdom, and you will know the most secret mysteries of the King! Utopian dream, right?
Yet… In Psalm 25 we read: “Show me, Lord, your ways, teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth, and teach me. …Who is the man who fears the Lord? He will teach him the way he should choose. His soul will dwell in goodness, and his offspring will inherit the land. The secret of the Lord is with those who fear him, and he will reveal his covenant to them.” (verses 4-5, 12-14).
Therefore, the one and only thing you would need to do to live this “utopian” dream would be to fear God!
And what does that mean? First of all, remember Who He is. We are talking about the God of the Universe. Then, you keep His commandments. Consequently, you fear His discipline if you do not keep His commands. You take Him seriously.
Deuteronomy 7:18 “…do not be afraid of them. Remember…” The fear of the Lord drives away other fears. Remember what God did for you.
Deuteronomy 20:3 “…let not your heart faint, do not fear or be terrified.” Do you fear your God? You do not fear your enemy!
Deuteronomy 5:29 “Oh, that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear me and always keep all my commandments, that they might prosper forever, they and their children.” It seems here that God is making a wish. This is also my wish: may there be such a heart within me, God. A heart that will recognize You, honor You, fear You, love You. With all its being.
